October and the autumn season brings many things to the Auburn-Opelika community and our society at large: football, colorful leaves, cozy sweaters, tailgating, apple pies and hay rides, to name a few. However, October has long been the month that Auburn University heads off against The University of Alabama in the Beat Bama Food Drive.
The rival universities and their surrounding communities, come together to fight hunger in our state. But, per usual, we make it a competition. Participation and “winning” comes in the form of either donations (food or monetary) or volunteer hours.
The Lee County Association of Realtors (LCAR), decided to take it a step further and create a competition between Realtor’s and their companies. We’ll sum it up for you:
1. An individual Realtor could win by earning the most points.
2. Real Estate offices win by earning the most points (but must have ALL their agents participate).
3. Points are calculated as follows: a) 1 canned food item = 1 point. b) $1 donation = 10 points. c) 2 hours of volunteering = 200 points.
Thursday, Oct. 6., 2016, part of The Coldwell Banker A&W Real Estate team volunteered from 9 – 11 a.m. and we had a blast! Giving back to our community, deterring landfill waste (practicing sustainability!) and meeting new friends was a perfect way to (almost) end our week.
Friends and family members of agents are allowed to donate and volunteer on behalf of their agent or office. The LCAR goal for the entire Beat Bama Food Drive is 150,000 points. If you would like to help us in transforming our state’s well-being, economy, health AND beat compete against Bama while doing it, please give us a call or email and we would love to have you join in giving back!
